SlowMoneyFarm - down to earth investing, growing

Is it safe?

You've worked hard for your money. We work hard for ours as well, and undertake the challenge of returning not just a profit, but doing so in a fickle world of living creatures, weather and consumer demand.

This is a safer investment than many because it involves purchasing land and animals, planting crops and other permanent situations that make it impossible to move out on repayment. Simply put, we can't up and take off with 20 acres of land! You KNOW where we will be. Of course many things can happen that are out of control of any people. Farmers have long battled the weather - drought, tornado and other storms can certainly happen. Animals die, even with excellent care. Predators - including dogs - can do an incredible amount of damage. These things can be planned to reduce risk (as has been done) but we'd be lying to say there wasn't risk.

It's little secret people are concerned about their food. Additionally getting away on a budget is an interest for many. From a food standpoint our flexibility can mean customizing for each individual. This flexibility and personalization also means we can truly make each customer a unique offer. If you are vegetarian or vegan simply let us know! Garden produce, herbs, fruits and other products take on a higher importance. Work with us and we'll work with you.  The lower number of people to deal with gives us a chance to personalize to a much greater detail. Some may want cut flowers included while others have allergies to consider. The variety available is options. Some customers might want mostly produce and eggs but has a dog on a raw diet, which is another option for meats either cut and sectioned or ground.

There are some things that by law we can't do. Success is of a different nature on the farm. With an eye towards long term things must be grown, meaning we must think in the spring about Thanksgiving turkeys! In addition to providing your family with home-grown food the farm also provides for conservation of many rare breeds - livestock and heirloom plants that without a function of providing food on small farms would cease to exist at all.
