Are you looking to invest a relatively small amount of money and help
increase local food production at the same time? Are you looking for a
way to put your money to work were it makes a visible difference? Many
places have a minimum $100,000 or $250,000 - but smaller investors don't
have that kind of cash. If you do we can certainly work with that on
another level. Venture capital opportunities have been increasing as a way to spread out investments.
For those with $12,000+ we can offer a solid return payment that also
makes a difference in a community and for an individual farm. It also
provides benefit to wildlife in the surrounding area. Slow money isn't
as flashy, but is solid. It isn't going anywhere because it's based on
food production and everyone eats! We can work with those from any part of
the country from an investment standpoint.
As is clear on our .com site we think a little "outside the box". We use
livestock and varieties of plants that are a little different. This
creates a use for heritage livestock and heirloom varieties of
vegetables. An herb garden provides a tasty and healthy offering from
rosemary to rose hips. We offer original photography, food, gifts and
other items all grown on a small farm, personal viewpoint.
We also have a custom CSA style food option where produce, eggs and herbs
provide families with good food that is freshly picked. It's grown
individually customized, eliminating foods no one wants while maximizing
those that are better used. From a venture capital standpoint, we offer some unique possibilities.
The smaller, slow money venture capital investment is for another reason - we take on
what we can handle. We would rather work with an individual than with a
bank where we're a number. We have located land and seek funds to
assist with the purchase. We have solid farm experience, an eye towards
working on a far tighter budget than many can conceive. We've become
established and are growing into a business model. Land, pasture,
equipment are all items that cost, and that are there for long time use.
Educational opportunities with photos, newsletters and other information
make it more than just a passive thing. As is possible technology can
also provide a window to the farm where people can see from their
computer live cameras of growing chicks and other animals. The farm
would be maintained with a minimum of chemicals, using rotational
grazing and hay with a minimum of grain.
From an investor standpoint repayment would be from income until paid.
With an eye towards getting and staying out of debt this is extra
insurance at getting your investment back. With a Wall Street company if
their business doesn't make it well life goes on. If ours doesn't then
we lose not only our business but our food source and our home. That's
incentive!
For those who prefer to purchase or sponsor please visit
SlowMoneyFarm.com and visit our Facebook page. If you are interested in
your investment being paid in food rather than cash we can do that also.
Ask about packages for restaurants and those wishing more options.
The options are available for returns as quickly as possible or over 3-5
years for growing food up to repayment levels. While some projects, such as meat chickens or rabbits, can result in fast turnover there are others, such as walnut trees, that can take several years before producing.
Our focus now is maintaining growth and we're approaching a point of needing more land. The target area is north of Nashville Tennessee across the Kentucky line. This allows easy freeway access to serving customers in Nashville, Louisville and Lexington, as well as the capability of serving Birmingham Alabama, Cincinnati Ohio and southern Illinois, possibly with some access to the St. Louis area. We have found a fenced area with a barn, so we're hoping to get some things in order to take advantage of the next opportunity.
On good land with good management we can have herb gardens, rabbits, poultry, pigs, orchard, a few sheep and a couple cows in addition to working with horse power. The land itself we've found generally from $50,000-80,000 - sometimes fenced, depending on exact location and land itself. It will cost about $10,000 to put up an insulated barn that is unlike most on the market for a new possibility of animal care and comfort! Other start up expenses: used stock trailer (about $2,000), rabbitry cages (about $2,000 including feeders), water system for poultry and rabbitry (filtered, recaptured rain water in tank provides water to all rabbits and poultry, cost about $1,000 for tanks), fencing ($2,000), hog shelter and pens, starter hogs. We've found great cash deals at times but without the cash had to let it by. This would also allow for a few acres of hay fields, which means we could produce all our own hay for the rabbits and small stock, reducing cash expenditures. A larger parcel of the right land would also allow raising of the grains needed, feed storage areas, increased pasture capacity for cattle and a conservation effort for rare breeds of livestock that will disappear without support from operations like this.
This isn't a random request nor a fly-by-night commitment. It's a capital commitment to do the best possible job raising food for
individuals while at the same time growing your money. Agreements made in advance, in writing with each
individual. Profit sharing for the duration of the investment as a means of repayment is another possibility. An inquiry to bank CD over 5 years shows 1.75% APY -
2.75% APY interest. Wouldn't you like a higher rate? A higher rate and
seeing the difference your money makes helps others AND makes money.
The possibilities are many. Help us in creating an innovative farm that
produces food, preserves rare livestock, educates and provides a
reasonable living for multiple families. Thank you for reading!
